Design

Conceived by the Danish designer and architect Louis Weisdorf in 1972, the Gubi Multi-Lite floor lamp brass fascinates with an unparalleled modifiable design. In order to achieve this special design, Weisdorf simply used two cylindrical and one hemispherical element. The latter of which is bordered by a frame made of metal. The special feature of this standard lamp is the hemispherical shade which can be split up into two quarter spheres, which can be arranged independently from each other. In this way, the Multi-Lite floor lamp, here with a brass-plated body, not only stands out for its individual design, but also for its variable lighting effect.

Louis Weisdorf designed the Multi-Lite Floor Lamp brass for the manufacturer Gubi in 1972.

Multi-Lite floor lamp brass: various lighting effects possible

The lighting effect of the Gubi Multi-Lite floor lamp depends on the positioning of its lampshade. When the two parts of the lampshade are joined on top, the light is reflected directly downwards. When they are joined at the bottom, the light is reflected upwards, which creates indirect ambient lighting. As the two lampshade elements can be positioned independently from each other, various lighting effects can be realised. For operation, the Multi-Lite by Gubi requires an illuminant with an E27 base. light11 recommends using a halogen lamp or, alternatively, an LED filament lamp.

Multi-Lite floor lamps as reading lights, uplighters and more

Depending on the alignment of the lampshade, the Gubi Multi-Lite floor lamp brass can perform different tasks. Directing its light solely downwards, it can assist you as a reading light in the living room, for instance, next to an armchair or a couch. With its light directed entirely upwards, the standard lamp brightens the room with soft, indirect light. Furthermore, when the lampshade elements are aligned asymmetrically to each other, a fascinating interplay of bright and dark areas give the room more depth.
