The PH 5 pendant light by Louis Poulsen is a timeless design classic from 1958. After decades of research, Danish designer Poul Henningsen created the now iconic pendant light.

To this day, the Louis Poulsen PH 5 is characterized by its sophisticated multiple shade system, which provides optimal glare-free zone light. The concentrically arranged shade segments direct the light downward without glare. At the same time, some light escapes to the sides, which creates a particularly atmospheric lighting in the room. The separately available illuminant can be easily changed as needed thanks to bayonet lock.

The perfectly shaped pendant lamp is available in a variety of colors, so you can find a design lamp that matches your interior. Incidentally, the name of the lamp is composed of the initials of Poul Henningsen and the diameter of the widest shade segment. This measures in the PH5 namely 50 cm, so 5 dm.

Louis Poulsen PH 5 pendant lamp is probably the most famous product of the family. Its widest shade segment has a diameter of 50 cm, the height of the lamp body is 26.7 cm. The pendant lamp has an E27 socket, you can buy a bulb when ordering. With a pendant height of 300 cm, the PH5 is also suitable for rooms with high ceilings.

The designer lamp comes into its own wonderfully above your dining table, where it pleasantly illuminates your food and drinks without glare. Poul Henningsen – multi-talented lighting expert

Poul Henningsen

Poul Henningsen was a respected designer, architect and author. Born in 1894, the Dane studied architecture for six years, though he did not graduate. Henningsen was initially involved in functionalist architecture, but early on he focused on lighting. His lighting designs achieved worldwide fame.

The Dane did pioneering work in lighting technology and dealt in depth with light structures, reflections and shadows. His contributions to the art of proper lighting made him as famous as his outstanding lighting designs.

For decades – from 1925 until his death in 1967 – Poul Henningsen worked with Louis Poulsen. Even today, the company produces the artful design lamps of the Dane. In addition to the PH 5, the PH Artichoke also comes from Henningsen. The pendant lamp, also called cone, is also characterized by its refined, even more complex design. Its luminaire body is composed of numerous shade segments that provide completely glare-free light.
