Flos To-Tie – refined design, innovative lighting technology
Flos To-Tie is a simple yet unusual table lamp designed by Guglielmo Poletti. The name "To-Tie" refers to the design principle. Because the various components of the lamp are connected only by mechanical tension. The central design element here is the textile cable.
The design is as reduced as it is refined: On the upper opening of a glass cylinder rests an aluminum handle, which emits the light. The innovative LED diffuser is made of specially developed white polycarbonate, so that glare and shadow effects are prevented. The warm white light radiates diffusely downwards and creates atmospheric lighting – whether by the bed on the nightstand or on a side table or sideboard. If it may be particularly atmospheric, dim the light using the touch dimmer on the cable.
The table lamp from Flos is available in various sizes and is characterized by its efficient LEDs with a service life of more than 50,000 hours. Flos To-Tie also scores in terms of sustainability: when assembling the lamp, the Italian manufacturer does not use glue. The product can therefore be disassembled into its recyclable individual parts.
Guglielmo Poletti – up-and-coming designer who loves experimentation
The Italian industrial designer Guglielmo Poletti was born in 1987 and can already enjoy several awards in his young years. In 2016, after graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven, he founded his studio in Milan.
The Italian loves to experiment. True to the design philosophy of "thinking by doing," he follows his intuition when designing – and finds it exciting himself to see where it has led him in the end.
Guglielmo Poletti began his collaboration with Flos shortly after the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020. Following a request from the Italian manufacturer, he developed several ideas and eventually presented a number of proposals, including the To-Tie table lamp. From the first draft to the finished lamp would take a year and a half, during which the designer and Flos continued to develop the product and fine-tune details. The result is an innovative and puristic table lamp with softly diffused, glare-free light.
