Tom Dixon is one of the most famous British designers of our time. His works are exhibited in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others. With his premium brand of lighting, furniture and home accessories, he is revitalizing the British interior design industry. In 2001, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to British design.

Tom Dixon – the designer who meets the nerve of the time
Tom Dixon was born in 1959 in Sfax, Tunisia and spent his early years in Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt. In the 1960s he moved with his family to England, where he attended Holland Park Comprehensive School, famous for its experimental education and very good art department. There Tom Dixon handled clay a lot and developed great interest in working with the versatile material.
After graduating from school, Dixon initially attended the Chelsea School of Art in London, but soon dropped out. He played in a fairly successful band that achieved local fame, and in between devoted himself to welding and design work again and again with great fondness.
The Briton had his breakthrough as an industrial designer in 1991 with the S-Chair for Cappellini. Many other successful furniture and lighting designs followed, through which he achieved international fame.
Tom Dixon has worked for Artek and Habitat, among others. At the latter, he first became Head of Design in 1998 and shortly thereafter Creative Director. In 2002, he finally founded his own design company under his name, in which he is still active as a product designer.
