Surface mounted spotlights: light where light should be
Surface mounted spotlights are used every time recessed spotlights are not desired or when there application is not possible. For example, when the ceiling is made of concrete, only the installation of surface mounted spotlights is realizable. In contrast to their recessed siblings, which mostly disappear behind walls, ceilings, floors and furniture, surface mounted spotlights have the visual advantage that they can put more emphasis on an appealing design due to their “prominent” appearance.
Surface mounted spotlights are attached to the ceiling or wall. Their technology is “hidden” so decoratively under a socket, that not even the screwing can be seen in most times. By way of their focussed light they create an intense, dynamic room atmosphere.
The surface mounted spotlight is a flexible luminaire. Not just because it can usually be adjusted to any direction and provide light where it is needed. It is also applicable in any kind of room, whatever size. In corridors and small rooms, for example, just one specimen is enough to give sufficient general lighting. But several surface mounted spotlights in a row let even larger rooms sparkle evenly in full light. If it is designed rather soberly, it pleases as a lighting solution with a subtle charisma and gives reading corners, pictures, cupboards and shelves the most part of the attention. The “Compass Box” by Flos, a Spanish manufacturer of design lighting, is such a surface mounted spotlight which is remarkable for its cool restraint and high functionality. In case already striking objects shall be put into the focus or a quite dull room shall be given a little more wow factor, a “bolder” luminaire could give an exciting splash of colour. Like the “BruckSilva Spot 85 PNT”, which creates glittering colours into every room with its mouth-blown crystal glass and its special coating.
In the outdoor area, modern surface mounted spotlights are protected against rain and dirt, for example because they feature an IP 65 rating, shielding them from splash water and small foreign materials. Example: “Easylite Spike” by SLV, a discreet and high value exterior light with a pivotable head, applicable in several areas of the garden.
