Northern – classic and modern designs from Scandinavia
Northern, formerly Northern Lighting, is a fairly young company compared to many other lighting manufacturers. Since its founding in Oslo in 2005, the brand has been intent on delighting the international market with refreshing Scandinavian designs. In addition to the high-quality lamps, this also applies to furniture and home accessories.
At the Norwegian manufacturer, aesthetics meet functionality and first-class craftsmanship meets excellent lighting quality. Whether a soft lighting for a cozy ambience or directly directed light for an optimal view when reading: Northern offers the right luminaire for a wide range of needs.
The range includes current contemporary designs as well as re-editions of well-known design classics. The products are characterized by their Scandinavian design language. Reduced designs - some with filigree details - and simple geometric round shapes characterize the product world of Northern. The lamps convey a feeling of lightness and informality and combine functionality and elegance in a unique way.
Birdy was designed in the 1950s by Birger Dahl – one of the most influential Scandinavian designers of his time. In 2003, Northern decided to breathe new life into the highly regarded classic made of steel and aluminum and launched the Re-Edition – with success.
The family of lamps is characterized by the filigree, reduced silhouette, which is particularly in the table lamp by the two-limbed frame and the conical lampshade remotely reminiscent of a bird. The light of the table, floor and wall lamp can be flexibly directed thanks to adjustable shade and arm. Therefore, Birdy lends itself as a reading lamp, whether placed on the bedside table, placed next to the couch or mounted above the bed. Therefore, Birdy lends itself as a reading lamp, whether placed on the nightstand, placed next to the couch or mounted above the bed. In addition, it proves to be a decorative design object that provides zone light, for example, on a sideboard.
Dokka is another lighting object from the pens of Birger Dahl and was the first luminaire from Norway to be awarded a gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1954. It became one of the best-selling pendant lights in Norway and was relaunched by Northern in 2007. The design is faithfully based on the original 1954 design, with the trademark funnel-shaped shade made of durable painted steel with its fine brass detail.
The pendant luminaire is available in a choice of many matte shades and provides direct downward zone light. This makes Dokka perfect for glare-free lighting of your dining table or kitchen counter.
