Louis Poulsen AJ – timelessly elegant lighting icon

With AJ, Louis Poulsen presents a true design classic by Arne Jacobsen. The famous architect and designer originally designed the lamp in 1957 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.

More than 60 years later, the lamp still inspires with its timeless graphic design: defining features are the asymmetrical lampshade and the flat base with recess. The shade can be tilted, allowing you to direct the glare-free zone light as needed. This makes the AJ excellent as a reading lamp.

The designer lamp is available as a floor, table, wall and pendant lamp for indoor use and as a bollard and wall lamp for outdoor use.

The AJ is part of the Icons collection from Louis Poulsen. This includes the most iconic designer lamps of the Danish manufacturer.

Like many of its classics, Louis Poulsen has revived Arne Jacobsen's lamp and now offers it in more appealing colors.

Designer Arne Jacobsen – a creative visionary

Arne Jacobsen (1902 - 1971) is one of the most important architects and designers of the 20th century. Born in Copenhagen, he originally wanted to become a painter, but decided to study architecture at the request of his father. In 1927 he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Art, where he later also taught as a professor.

Jacobsen's works are classified as modern functionalism and are inspired by Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and the Bauhaus. The Dane's architectural style is characterized by clear, geometric forms. Examples include the Mainz City Hall and the Radisson Collection Hotel, Royal Copenhagen. Jacobsen's designs, on the other hand, are often characterized by organic, flowing forms.

Creative and perfectionist, Jacobsen liked to try new things and often pushed the limits of what was possible. This resulted in design classics such as the "egg" chair, also known as the "Egg Chair." His Louis Poulsen lamps also developed into legendary icons.
