How many lumens should my front door lighting have?
Since front door lighting is primarily for orientation in the dark, a luminous flux of 100 to 300 lumens is usually sufficient. This applies to diffuse or direct light. If your front door lamp provides indirect light, the luminous flux should be somewhat higher.
Please note: Front door lamps serve to provide good lighting around your front door. To safely pass through your driveway, down stairs, or other pathways, you will need other outdoor lights for the specific application.
How high should a front door light hang?
If you are using an outdoor wall light for front door lighting, mount it so that it is as glare-free as possible. A position on the wall at eye level has proven itself, which in practice usually corresponds to 165 cm to 180 cm.
The following applies: wall lamps with downlight should always be mounted slightly higher than lamps with uplight.
As an alternative to the wall lamp, you can also mount a ceiling lamp, provided that a suitable canopy is available.
