Foscarini Spokes 1 Sospensione: a design that evokes associations

Design

The distinctive appearance of the Foscarini Spokes 1 is reminiscent of an aviary, an old oriental lantern or the spokes of a bicycle – hence its name. The thin powder-coated steel pipes are arranged in a repetitive pattern that creates a special optical effect, as no matter from what angle the pendant light by Foscarini is viewed, it always offers its viewer a new exciting sight. This combination of an extravagant appearance and the eccentric play of light turn the Spokes into the eye-catcher of nearly any room. Furthermore, the LED lamps of the Foscarini Spokes 1 Sospensione are embedded into an aluminium casing that provides for optimal heat dissipation and thereby prolongs their lifespan.

The Spokes family has already two members, of which the Spokes 1 and Spokes 2 only differ in terms of their shape. The Spokes 1 has an oval shape that slightly widens towards the base, whereas the shape of the second version of the Spokes is more like a compressed cylinder with rounded edges.

Designer

The Spokes 1 Sospensione Pendant lights was designed by Garcia Cumini in 2015 for Foscarini.

Spokes 1 Sospensione – two individual LED modules for zone light and ambient light in one luminaire

The Spokes pendant light owes its special lighting effect to two powerful LED modules embedded in the bottom of the shade. These emit their light upwards and downwards. In this way, the area beneath the Foscarini Spokes is illuminated as well as its inside. As the light emitted passes the steel spokes, it creates an exciting pattern of light and shadows on the walls. Furthermore, the light emitting diodes stand out for their high light output, as each of the modules produce around 1,400 llumens and consume less than 20 watts. The two modules combined easily outperform a 150 watts light bulb, which turns the Spokes 1 into a powerful, yet environmentally-friendly lighting solution.

Spokes 1 pendant lights for the dining room and the living room

The dining room greatly benefits from the presence of the Foscarini Spokes 1 Sospensione. Here, the pendant light suffuses the dining table with bright zone light and thereby accentuates food and drinks in an appetizing way.
