How many watts should my dining room lamp have?
To determine the amount of light, watts is no longer the relevant quantity. Rather, you should use the lumen value as a guide for this. For comparison, a 75-watt incandescent lamp has a luminous flux of about 1,000 lumens. A modern LED lamp with the same amount of light consumes just 8 to 10 watts.

If you want to specifically illuminate an area such as the dining table, we recommend about 700 lumens per square meter of area. This value is thus a good choice for lighting a 120 x 80 cm dining table with a table surface of 0.96 m². Larger tables, on the other hand, usually require multi-flame dining room lights that evenly illuminate the table surface. Here, each flame should have at least 700 lumens.
Which dining room lamps are suitable for the dining table?
The classic dining table lighting is the pendant light, which you hang centrally above your dining table. However, wall lamps with a long arm can also bathe your dining table in cozy light. If you do not have a suitable power outlet for this, simply choose a wall lamp with a plug. At least as uncomplicated are arc lamps that you set up so that the head is centered above the table surface.
Whether pendant, wall or arc lamp: It is important that the dining table lamp gives you glare-free zone light.
You can also illuminate your dining table with spotlight strips. However, you should pay special attention to some aspects here: Since these dining room lights are mounted much higher above the table than, for example, pendant or wall lights, you should ensure that sufficient light reaches the table surface. Here, the amount of light, the beam angle and the room height must be taken into account. In addition, the light must not dazzle you at the table.
