Bedroom lights – the perfect light for going to bed, reading and waking up

The bedroom is the place where we end the day and start a new one. Here, we come to rest in the evening and begin the day in the morning. This means getting up, getting dressed and making the bed.

These different activities require an adapted and versatile lighting concept for the bedroom. To start, you need good room lighting that gives orientation and a homogeneous basic brightness. Then, make sure to add zone lighting to the bed. The bedside table lamp is usually the first light we turn on in the morning and the last one we switch off before sleeping. Mood lighting gives the final touch to bedroom lighting and will produce a particularly cozy atmosphere.

For making the bed, getting dressed and tidying up the bedroom, you need general lighting to give you orientation. It will balance strong contrasts between bright and dark that would only tire your eyes. This kind of even room lighting can be achieved through glare-free pendant and ceiling lights.

Indirect room light has a particularly cozy effect and proves to be absolutely glare-free. For indirect lighting, you may use uplights as well as wall lamps which direct their light upwards. Zone lighting for the bedroom

No bedroom can do without zone lighting next to the bed. A bedside table lamp is often used as a reading light. You can put a table lamp on the nightstand or mount a wall light above or beside the bed – even a pendant light could be an excellent idea.

In order to have a clear view inside your wardrobe and find quickly the piece of clothing you are looking for, we recommend adapted lighting. Spots with a wide light distribution, positioned at the right distance from your wardrobe, are particularly suitable here. These can also be used to illuminate pictures on the wall evenly. Zone light on a sideboard or the windowsill can be obtained using table lamps. Do you have a TV set in your bedroom? Then do not forget to add television lighting.

There is no other place where we appreciate more to have a kind of light that gives a cozy atmosphere and invites us to cuddle up in bed. This special lighting atmosphere can be realized through table lamps, floor or battery lights with a soft, diffuse light quality which shines softly without illuminating the whole room. LED candles as well as candleholders for wax candles are another way for creating a comfortable mood, enhancing our well-being, and making it easier to relax after a long day.

Battery lights offer a maximum of flexibility and can be placed in various spots, like on your bedside table, on a dresser or on the windowsill. LED strips are a very modern way of providing indirect lighting and can even be attached to the lower edge of your bed.

Which luminaires do I need for my bedroom?

Everything starts with providing room lighting for basic brightness in your bedroom. Different kinds of luminaires can give this type of room light. The atmosphere in your bedroom will be particularly cozy if you opt for indirect light, for example by using an uplight or pendant lights that direct their light to the ceiling. Furthermore, wall lamps which orient their light rays to the wall can provide a comfortable ambiance.

Next to the bed, good reading light is required. The best choice are adjustable table or wall lamps. You might also like pendant lights. These can be used, if their light is glare-free and if it is possible to control them without leaving the bed. For example, a switch or a dimmer on the lamp itself or next to the bed is very practical, as well as commanding it through a remote control or an app on your smartphone.

A useful addition to zone light next to the bed is cabinet lighting so that you can quickly get a good overview of your wardrobe. Clip-on lights as well as adjustable ceiling spotlights and spots are good options for this purpose. Rail systems and spotlight bars with adjustable lamps illuminate your cabinet while at the same time distributing their light homogeneously in the room. One essential aspect here: make sure that there is enough distance between the luminaires and the cabinet – about a third of the room’s height – so that the light will reach as far as possible into the wardrobe without forgetting its lower parts.

Please note: When you mount luminaires above the cabinet, make sure that you position them in a way that avoids light falling directly into your back when you are standing in front of the cabinet. It is preferable to use several light sources, so that the light comes from the right as well as the left side.

The cherry on the cake, when it comes to bedroom lighting, is mood light. Table or battery lamps giving indirect and diffuse light can be placed on the windowsill, the floor or a commode and add an extra of softness and coziness to your bedroom.

Our advice: LED lamps with adjustable light colors enable you to adapt the light to your internal clock. In the morning, light with a high proportion of blue will have an activating effect, and in the evening, light with a high share of red helps us to calm down and relax. This is why you should use neutral white (3.001 to 4.000 kelvins) or cold white light (more than 4.000 K) in the morning and prefer warm white light (up to 3.000 K) in the evening.

Which bedroom lamps fit in with my living style?

A bedroom with modern furniture looks good with monochrome luminaires in a minimalist, geometric design, for example inspired by the Bauhaus
Lights made from natural materials are a nice choice for a country-style bedroom. You may like wood lamps or models with a textile shade.
You can emphasize industrial style by using functional metal luminaires which will add an urban charm to your bedroom.
A retro style bedroom can best be complemented with famous and classic lights from past decades.
For Japandi style, choose bedroom lamps in simple forms and from natural materials like wood or paper.
If you prefer the coziness of Boho style, bedroom lights out of wood, bamboo or rattan in airy, open design forms will be a perfect addition – like wooden lampshades with a latticed structure.

Which bedroom lamp can be used with sloping roofs?

As a general rule, bedroom lights used with sloping roofs should be rather small, flat and not too heavy. Pivotable spotlights and spots as well as compact ceiling lights will be a good choice, in most cases. The same principles should be applied to special pendant lights

for sloping roofs

Our advice:If you plan to mount a luminaire under a roof slope, always seek advice, because there are some particular aspects to be considered.

How can I make bedroom lighting look romantic?

If you are looking for a bedroom lighting concept with romantic effects, we recommend dimmable lights as well as lamps having a particularly warm light color with a maximum of 2.700 K.

Placing a mood lightstrong> on the windowsill or the bedside table is a good start, in the form of table lamps, battery lights, LED candles or candleholders for wax candles. Indirect light generally creates a romantic mood, maybe by using an uplight or a wall lamp with upwards directed light.

LED strips can also be used to create romantic light effects in your bedroom. You can attach the strips to the bed as well as to the edge between wall and ceiling or between wall and the floor.

Smart Home luminaires are always a good idea when it comes to creating a smooth mood for bedroom lighting, especially with adjustable light colors and colors. These lamps allow you to adapt lighting to your current mood, thereby creating a unique and individual light atmosphere.

Which colors of bedroom lamps are modern?
