How many lumens your lights should have depends on the intended use as well as the type of luminaire..
- For facade and pathway lights, about 200 to 400 lumens are recommended.
- Ground recessed lights with orientation light should have about 100 lumens.
- For recessed spotlights, about 200 to 400 lumens is a good guideline.
- Area spotlights for illuminating large areas, high facades or trees are best at 700 lumens or more.
Important: At least as important as sufficient luminous flux is the proper distribution of outdoor LED lights. Make sure that you illuminate garden, terrace, driveway, house entrance and co. evenly, so that no dark areas are created.
What are the advantages of outdoor LED lights with twilight switch?
LED outdoor lamps with twilight switch are particularly energy-saving. This is because, thanks to a sensor, they switch on automatically when it gets dark and switch off again later when it gets light. What IP rating should my outdoor LED lights have?
Basically, a higher protection class is recommended for outdoor lighting than for indoor lights. This is because outdoor lamps are exposed to a wide range of weather conditions. Which protection class we specifically advise you to choose depends on the area of application of your outdoor luminaire.
If the LED luminaire is in a protected location, for example under a canopy, IPX4 protection is sufficient. Exposed outdoor lights, on the other hand, should have a protection rating of at least IPX5, for example IP65, IP66 or IP67.
In addition to the protection rating, you should also keep an eye on the protection class, especially for pond and pool lights.
